Its applications are now reaching new levels of intricacy by being utilized in advanced industries such as healthcare, smart grid, public safety, and more.

However, without a connection, connected devices are no better than any regular device. While all the most common places (rural areas, transportation infrastructures…) are now in range of one if not multiple wireless networks, there are still some coverage gaps that must be adressed before M2M connections can be really active everywhere.
